2009 Family Helper of the Year - Casey Swankie

Casey Swankie Family Helpers has awarded
Casey Swankie the 2009 Employee
of the Year Award.

Kasandra Swankie was born and raised in Middletown Springs, Vermont. She worked as a babysitter throughout her teenage and young adult life. She's always had a love for children and a passion to watch them grow. After high school, she attended the College of St. Joseph in Vermont. She volunteered as a college mentor and received a BS in Elementary Education. During and after her studies, for a total of 8 years, she worked as a substitute teacher, assistant teacher, head teacher and director of numerous "new" programs at an Early Education and Care center in Vermont.

After re-locating to Buchanan, New York, Kasandra worked as director of Buchanan Day Camp for 2 seasons, was an assistant teacher in the before/after school programs at the local elementary schools, and started her journey as a nanny. Kasandra currently works for a family with two children ages 18 months and 3 1/2 years old. She absolutely ardores the children and the parents she works for.

Kasandra is now pursing her Masters Degree in Special Education. She enjoys skiing, traveling, spending time with family and friends and going to work. Kasandra has one brother and recently got married! Kasandra was nominated for Family Helpers' employee of the year by her employers, Mr. & Mrs. L.. Mrs. L. describes Casey as someone who loves to be outdoors, is active, loves to laugh and adores children. Casey told the L.family when she interviewed for the position that her goal was to teach the children manners, responsibility and love. In the 14 mos. that she has been employed with the L. family she has met her goals.

According to Mrs. L., "Casey arrives each day like an orb of sunshine! She has boundless energy and a beaming smile. She invents games for the children, creates original art projects and cooks with them."

Mrs. L., who describes herself as a "control freak," was very nervous the first time Casey asked to take the children on an all-day trip to the zoo. To assure Mrs. L. that all was well, Casey took pictures throughout the day at the zoo during each leg of the trip and emailed them to Mrs. L. Mrs. L. was able to feel as though she was included and she was provided with pictures throughout the day of her children enjoying themselves.

Mrs. L. describes Casey as a "no excuses" person who excels at every aspect of her job. The children never watch T.V., she keeps the house neat and tidy and she is "as good to my kids as another human being can be. We love her."
